At the Skybox Sports Bar onboard, you can quench your thirst while watching a game, get the latest sports news and headlines, and maybe even play a few sports games with fellow guests. Unless you’re visiting the Serenity Deck at super-early or super-late hours, don’t worry about taking a towel with you. There’ll be a towel attendant on duty who can hand out towels and then collect them from you as you leave.

Adults-Only Cruises That Aren’t Quite All-Inclusive

In this section, we will uncover the many compelling reasons why choosing an adults-only cruise can be a game-changer for your vacation experience. From the tranquility of the environment to the tailored amenities and activities, adults-only cruises promise a world of advantages for those who seek more from their travels. For many, the appeal of adults-only cruises lies not just in what they offer but also in what they leave behind. These carefully curated voyages create an environment where serenity, relaxation, and sophistication converge to provide an experience that caters to the desires of adults seeking to escape the daily hustle and embrace the extraordinary. Back on board, travelers can sip cocktails and unwind in one of the bars and lounges, retreat to their contemporary staterooms, unwind at the spa, and tuck into a meal at one of six eateries. There’s a handful of onboard entertainment offerings, including live shows and music, plus the line’s signature White Night, where guests can eat, drink, and let loose in their best white outfits.

Serenity Is Not Clothing Optional

Because of that, the different Serenity Areas all have different features and layouts, but the general effect is the same. Regardless of the ship, though, the Serenity area has a dedicated bar, upgraded loungers, and a water feature (a pool, hot tub, or both). Another fantastic luxury cruise line, Seabourn also offers all-inclusive cruises focused on adults.

Especially in the morning, it can be hard to find a lounger and definitely hard to find a clamshell on sea days. Thankfully, there seems to be fewer chair hogs/savers in the Serenity Area than in other areas of the ship. There is no additional charge to use the Serenity Area on a Carnival ship. If you don't like kids, cruise when school is in session and avoid holidays, spring break, short cruises, etc. My guess is that they'll use those two unique ships to offer a more high end experience. Connecting the dots made me wonder if Carnival is considering making Costa by Carnival an Adults-Only brand.

P&O and Virgin are more mid-range, while Viking, Grand Circle, and Silversea will have you spending a little more, with Regent Seven Seas your most luxurious choice. The allure of a cruise is great to many, and the added bonus of no kids around makes adults-only cruises extremely popular. For anyone interested in booking an adult-only cruise, the information and deciding what to choose may be overwhelming.

Best Adults-Only All-Inclusive Cruises: Viking, Virgin Voyages and Saga

Silversea cruises don’t come with childcare services, children’s entertainment or supervision. In addition to the top adult-only cruise lines above, there are several others that also cater mainly to adults. Although they’re technically not 100% adults only, they do make for a great choice if you’re looking for a more sophisticated and grown-up atmosphere. When you book a cruise with the following cruise lines, you won’t find many kids on board (though there might be the occasional family). Their itineraries are packed with immersive activities, social events and cultural programs, catering perfectly to the millennial lifestyle where experiences are more important than materialism. Instead of offering all kinds of non-stop entertainment and 24-hour buffet restaurants, Viking Ocean Cruises gives its passengers the chance to actually relax in between ports.

Travel Mexico

While not explicitly adults-only — there are some child-friendly activities — it’s rare to spot little ones on board unless you’re cruising to popular destinations like Alaska or the Mediterranean in the summer months (when school’s out). With that in mind, those who opt for multi-week or months-long itineraries, including Grand Voyages, can most likely expect a kid-free sailing. The 1,874-passenger Aurora is the line’s smallest ship and offers a more intimate feel.

Benefits of Choosing an Adults-Only Cruise

Each zone is carefully designed by Carnival’s master climate artists in order to find the perfect relaxing temperature. Don a soft-cotton robe and relax in the dry heat of the Laconium or Tepidarium, or opt for the soothing moisture or the Oriental or Aroma Steam baths. I've worked in marketing for almost 20 years and this is one of the ways we gauge market interest, but without the company itself asking the question. If Carnival were to send out a survey to a large selection of their loyal passengers about their feelings towards adults-only cruising, it would be all over the cruise media outlets.

If you're not crazy about kids, NEVER take your vacation when school is out. That means spring break, Christmas vacation, and never ever during the summer. (Read the travel columns on Tripso.com for a definition of spring break. It pretty much encompasses all of March and April because schools stagger their breaks.) If you want to avoid college kids too, now you have to ditch mid-May as well. They may be the least expensive time to cruise, there are fewer crowds, and very few kids.

Entertainment offerings include a theater, a cinema, a library, an art gallery, a card room, and a lounge where cruisers can catch cabaret performances, discos, quiz shows, and more. Aurora offers a breadth of itineraries ranging from lengthy world cruises to four- and five-night “Short Breaks,” sailing round-trip from Southampton to nearby European cities like Amsterdam, Hamburg, and Zeebrugge. Aurora also sails to the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean, and North America. The 2,388-passenger Arcadia is a bit larger; however, it has fewer pools (two compared to three) and bars and restaurants (15 compared to 19). While Arcadia also lacks a card room and a lounge, it does boast The Globe in its place, which offers movie screenings, art auctions, cabaret shows, live music, and more.

We’ve put together a guide to help you with any questions you may have when it comes to adult-only cruises. While you can certainly choose to have fun 24/7 on a Carnival Cruise, perhaps you’ll want to take a bit of time to enjoy some art and culture as well. From art galleries, fun art auctions and a large, relaxing library, you’ll be able to indulge all your interests. There’s no dress code you need to worry about for the Serenity Retreat on a Carnival cruise ship, except that you are expected to be clothed. Some people believe that, because it’s an adults-only area, it’s OK to go topless or even nude to sunbathe.

Carnival’s policy is that guests must always be covered up when they’re on the ship. In reality, you might be fine if you did want to sunbathe topless, especially on a European cruise, though be aware that you might be asked to cover up. The Carnival Serenity Bar Menu includes a range of Signature Sangrias, various wine options, beers (available as solo beers or a bucket of 4) and a selection of Signature Cocktails, including frozen and low-calorie options. Pretty much every Serenity Deck has at least a whirlpool for adults only, but not many have an actual pool (and the ones that do have a pool only have a small pool area). On most Carnival ships, the Serenity Deck is situated on one level, but there are a handful of ships that have an extended Serenity area which fits across multiple decks. This didn’t stop my girlfriend of spending a few spare hours at the Serenity to enjoy some quiet reading time.

A lot of people believe Carnival Sunshine has the best Serenity Deck since it is split across three levels, and offers the most space. One of the best things about the Serenity Deck is that it is for adults only – children aren’t allowed, and if you try to take your children onto the deck then the crew members will ask you to leave. The area has a range of hammocks, loungers, day beds and clamshells that guests can use. None of these require an additional charge, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can just head to the Serenity Deck area whenever you feel like you want to relax, and walk right onto it.
